MTB Nor’East @ Greenfield Ma

This is my first blog post and I’ll start with the trails I ride most frequently. I hope my stories and adventures progress in a way that will inspire others to get out and ride.

About 14years ago my beautiful bride to be brought me to the Pioneer Valley and my love for this place and this amazing woman continues to grow. We settled down in the town of Greenfield. Enough about my life!

The seemingly small network of trails along the Greenfield Ridge provide a great variety of flowing single track to technical loose rocky climbs. As I was careening down the Red trail southbound from the High St entrance. I found myself flat on my back looking up at the clouds through the green leaves. My bike was about 20 feet up the trail, well not on the trail but tossed onto a small bush on the downhill slope a couple of feet off the trail. I realized the small tree 30 feet up the trail had reached out and grabbed my handlebar as I went by. I’m sure the tree was just being friendly but my front fork and helmet had both been cracked from the crash. I dusted myself off and decided to slow it down for the rest of the ride.

There are several trails that run along the ridge behind Poet’s Seat and when you have exhausted your self on this side of the ridge you can head south towards Sachems Head. This is the rocky side of the ridge with hard punchy climbs and loose shale rock scattered along the cliff base. You can loop these trails into a good 7-9 mile workout and by the end of the ride you should have a grin ear to ear not only because you were pleasantly surprised by the quality of the trails but also because you got to see some magnificent scenery along the way.
